The table below is the reference this site is built around. Each row gives one milestone of the season, its Hijri and Gregorian dates, how sure the date is and who published it. You can quote it, print it or send it to the rest of the family as it is.
How to read the status column. "Confirmed" means the date appears in the official season calendar published by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. "Estimated" means the date was calculated in advance and can still move by a day once the crescent is sighted. "To be checked" means the information comes from the press or from a past season, with no official text for this season yet. The date on which we last checked every source is printed under the source list at the bottom of this page.
What are the three dates that close this Umrah season?
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah published the full calendar of the 1448 season: it opened on 31 May 2026 and closes in three steps, on 9 March, 23 March and 7 April 20271. These are the only dates in the table that do not depend on a moon sighting. They are fixed in advance and apply to every pilgrim, whatever the country of departure.
Last visa: the last Umrah visas of the season are issued on 1 Shawwal 1448, which is 9 March 20271. The official wording is about issuance. On that day the document has to be granted, not merely requested, so an application sent at the last minute is a gamble.
Last entry: pilgrims can enter Saudi Arabia for Umrah until 15 Shawwal 1448, which is 23 March 20271. Between 9 and 23 March 2027, no new visa is issued, but a visa granted before the cut-off still lets its holder in1.
Last departure: every pilgrim of the season has to leave by 30 Shawwal 1448, which is 7 April 20271. This is the date that limits a long stay after Eid, and the one to compare with the return date on a flight ticket.
For a family aiming at Ramadan itself, the three dates fall after the month. They matter most to those who travel late in the month, who want to stay for Eid in Makkah, or who prefer to go right after the holiday.
Where does Ramadan fall in this calendar?
On the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia, 1 Ramadan 1448 falls on Monday 8 February 2027 (estimate, subject to moon sighting)2. Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 in Saudi Arabia, while moonsighting.org.uk forecasts the start of Shawwal on 10 March 2027 (estimate, subject to moon sighting)2.
Look at the table again and one detail stands out. The expected day of Eid is also the day of the last visa, because the ministry tied that cut-off to 1 Shawwal 1448 and dated it 9 March 20271. The whole month of Ramadan therefore sits inside the season, and the issuing window closes as the month ends.
Morocco follows its own announcement. The Habous ministry sets the start of Ramadan by sighting the crescent on the evening of 29 Shaban and issues a communique that same evening5. In 2026, Morocco began Ramadan 1 day after Saudi Arabia, and the same gap in 2027 is not confirmed8. Both calendars, and what happened last year, are set side by side on our Ramadan dates page.
How early can you apply before arrival?
Not very early. According to Gulf News, since around 1 November 2025 the Umrah visa must be used within 1 month of issuance, compared with 3 months previously, and an unused visa is cancelled after 30 days3. Older advice to "apply as soon as possible" no longer protects you.
Put differently, for an arrival on the expected first day of Ramadan, that one-month window, according to Gulf News, opens around the start of Shaban (estimate, subject to moon sighting)39. For a pilgrim aiming at the end of the month, it opens later, and for anyone travelling after Eid it is squeezed between the month before arrival and the cut-off of 9 March 20271.
The hotel comes before the application. According to Gulf Business and Khaleej Times, citing the Saudi ministry, since 10 June 2025 an Umrah visa is issued only if the accommodation is registered on the Nusuk Masar platform, in a licensed hotel that confirms the booking electronically10. In practice, book and register the hotel first, and apply second.
Your own window depends on your arrival date. The planner does the arithmetic in your browser: enter the date you plan to land and it shows when your application should be granted, checked against the cut-off dates in this table.
Have the rules for Ramadan Umrah this season been published?
No, not at the time of writing. The only Ramadan rules we found belong to past seasons, and we quote them as such, next to the official season calendar1.
For Ramadan 1444, in 2023, the Saudi ministry opened Ramadan Umrah permits on the Nusuk app; pilgrims from abroad needed a valid visa when booking the permit, and only one Umrah per person was allowed during the month, according to Arab News (Ramadan 2023); Ramadan 1448 rules not yet published12.
In March 2024, according to Aaj News, the Saudi ministry announced it would issue only one Umrah permit per person during Ramadan; whether this applies to Ramadan 1448 is not known4.
What this means for planning: do not build a Ramadan stay around more than one Umrah during the month, and treat any rule as settled only once the ministry publishes it for this season. Questions about how to perform the rites belong with a trusted imam or scholar, not with a calendar.
Which line of the table matters for your trip?
Families do not all read the same row. Find yours.
- Arriving for the start of Ramadan. The one-month rule decides when the visa can be issued, according to Gulf News3. The risk is applying too early, not too late.
- Aiming at the last 10 nights. Same rule, with a later window. Watch for this season's Nusuk rules, not yet published, and for the return date after Eid.
- Staying in Makkah for Eid. The date that counts is the last departure, 7 April 20271. Check it against the return flight.
- Travelling just after Eid. Two dates frame the trip: a visa issued by 9 March 2027 and an entry by 23 March 20271. The application has to be made during Ramadan.
When to book the hotel and the flights, as opposed to the paperwork, is covered step by step in our booking timeline. For the cost side, the Ramadan Umrah prices published in Morocco are collected, each with its date and source, on prixomra.ma.
How is this table kept up to date?
Dates are changed in the table itself, on the day an official announcement changes them. Each change is then logged with its date and source in the announcements log, kept in French. We do not rewrite history: a corrected date stays visible in that log.
If a row could not be re-checked in time, the page shows an "update in progress" banner. In that case, do not rely on that row before you book.
Not announced yet
- The first day of Ramadan in Morocco. The Habous ministry will announce it on the evening of 29 Shaban, after the crescent sighting5.
- The gap between Morocco and Saudi Arabia. It was 1 day in 2026; nothing confirms the same gap in 20278.
- This Ramadan's rules on Nusuk. No official text has been published for this season yet.
- What happens to the cut-off if Eid moves by a day. The ministry dated 1 Shawwal 1448 as 9 March 2027 for the last visa issuance1. If Shawwal began on 10 March 2027, as moonsighting.org.uk forecasts (estimate, subject to moon sighting), we do not know whether that date would move2.
- The calendar of the next season. Nothing has been published yet for the season after this one.
