When should you book a Ramadan Umrah for 2027?

This page is written for the person who does the organising: often a son or daughter living in Europe or North America, booking a Ramadan Umrah for parents who will fly from Morocco, sometimes for the first time. The question is not only "when", but "in what order". The answer comes from two fixed dates and from the order the rules impose.

Why book months before applying?

Because the two steps run on different clocks. The paperwork has to wait: according to Gulf News, since around 1 November 2025 the Umrah visa must be used within 1 month of issuance, against 3 months before¹. The hotel and the flights do not wait, and in Ramadan they are what runs out.

The demand is concentrated in a few weeks. Before the pandemic, Umrah drew more than 100,000 Moroccan pilgrims a year, nearly 60% of them during Ramadan, according to Challenge⁶. The figures have moved since. Ramadan Umrah drew more than 30,000 Moroccans in 2023 and about 20,000 in 2024, a drop of 30%, according to the federation, quoted by Medias24⁷. Even in a weaker year, that is a large group of travellers aiming at the same month.

There is also an order you cannot change. According to Gulf Business and Khaleej Times, citing the Saudi ministry, since 10 June 2025 an Umrah visa is issued only if the accommodation is registered on the Nusuk Masar platform, in a licensed hotel that confirms the booking electronically³. In other words, the hotel is a condition of the application, so it has to be settled first.

What should be booked first?

Work through the steps in this order. Each one depends on the one before.

The fifth step is where most families need a calculator. The visa date planner takes your arrival date and shows the window in which the visa should be issued, checked against the season's cut-off dates².

Why do the flights come straight after the hotel?

Because the flight is the booking that waits least well: in February 2025, almost all airlines were full on direct Morocco-Saudi flights, according to LesEco⁹, so a family that needs a direct flight books it as soon as the dates and the hotel are settled, months before the visa. If your parents fly from Morocco while you fly from abroad, book both journeys before you rely on a meeting point and a date.

Keep the hotel booking in front of you when you pay for the tickets. A flight one day later moves the first night too, and an overnight flight lands on the next calendar day. If the flight you find does not match the hotel dates, ask the hotel to move the booking before you pay for the ticket, and book every traveller in the family on the same reservation when the airline allows it. Why not apply too early?

Because the old reflex now works against you. According to Gulf News, since around 1 November 2025 the Umrah visa must be used within 1 month of issuance, compared with 3 months previously, and an unused visa is cancelled after 30 days¹. A document obtained in December for a February arrival can lapse before the flight.

Once in Saudi Arabia, the clock changes. According to Gulf News, a stay on an Umrah visa can last up to 3 months after arrival¹. The limit that matters for a long Ramadan stay is the end of the season: every pilgrim has to leave by 30 Shawwal 1448, which is 7 April 2027².

The month-before rule also moves with your plan. A family landing for the first days of Ramadan enters its window around the start of Shaban; a family aiming at the end of the month enters it later. The season deadline table shows every cut-off date in one place².

What should you check before paying a deposit?

A deposit commits you to dates. Before you pay, check these points in writing, whoever you book with.

• The dates against the season calendar. The arrival has to fall before the last entry on 23 March 2027, and the return before the last departure on 7 April 2027².
• The hotel and Nusuk Masar. Ask whether the hotel confirms bookings on the platform, since according to Gulf Business and Khaleej Times, citing the Saudi ministry, the visa depends on it³.
• Who applies, and when. The application belongs in the month before arrival, according to Gulf News¹.
• What happens if the month starts a day later. In 2026, Morocco began Ramadan 1 day after Saudi Arabia¹⁰. Ask whether the first and last nights can shift.
• What happens to your money if the dates change. Get the answer in writing before paying.
• The price itself. As of 20 October 2026, we had found no published price data for Ramadan Umrah 2027 from Moroccan agencies or the press¹¹. Compare written quotes, not remembered figures.
